Selective means for presumptive identification and counting ofPseudomona aeruginosain water samples and liquids by membrane filtration.

Asparagina broth in ampoule is a prepared medium, ready for use in membrane filtration analysis for the detection and counting ofPseudomona aeruginosain water and liquids.Pseudomonas aeruginosais an opportunistic pathogen in humans, able to grow in water with low concentration of nutrients. This microorganism can also be found in pool water.

Principle of procedure

The formula contains a strictly mineral base, with asparagina as the only source of nitrogen and glycerol as the source of carbon. Potassium salts act as a buffer system and magnesium sulphate provides magnesium ions, required in a wide variety of enzyme reactions, including DNA replication.

SincePseudomona aeruginosahydrolyzes asparagin in aspartic acid, the appearance of growth with or without fluorescent pigmentation is considered a presumptive positive result. Confirmation is made by subcultivating in Caldo Acetamide (Cat. 1211).
